the overpass

overpass
we’re all men in puffy florida state jackets
passing underneath overpasses in hondas–
no one cares about the construction of overpasses
or who builds them, only that they are passing and a thing,
and a thing that is outside, passed under in a honda
that is owned and a tangible reality, like a good cup holder
in a low-mileage honda civic with a five year warranty,
anti-lock brakes, a place for an mp3 player to plug in,
bug guard, and keyless remote entry.
under the overpass, we’re in a honda going to work,
over us, is an overpass that was built, and forgotten about
and seen by thousands of people on their way to work, daily,
and was built, and forgotten by people not involved in building:
the same people who built and drove under similar overpasses,
who had similar ideas about similar things to us, and were similar to
us like a man in a honda wearing a puffy florida state jacket
under an overpass, driving to work with rap music on the radio,
like us, all other people like us, all going to work,
driving under a large overpass with radios, mp3 capability,
a five year warranty for possible problems with the honda,
and some idea of what it is to go to work, at least some
small ideas about what makes a tangible reality, mp3 player,
five year warranty, the overpass, keyless remote entry,
anti-lock brakes, cup holder, the outside, the overpass,
the tangible reality of a honda, the outside, rap music,
bug guard, the outside, mp3 player, the overpass, mp3 player,
tangible cup holders, the outside, the overpass.
